Funny things do happen. The doctor called in sick today.
My appointment has been rescheduled for Monday. That's okay with me; I started logging my food intake just out of curiousity (I did this last fall for but lost interest after a week - it's really a chore to write down every single thing you eat), so that will give me a couple more days on it.
